Winter Time on da land

Yesterday did a soft & mellow cover on Moonlight Sonata, using piano and Synplant. Needless to say, I have a tendency to do classy things, classy like in “very old school”. Yet I think I finally found my vocal formant filter, played with it and it sounds great, finally. Maybe it’s even worth to re-record some of my older stuff with this new finding, yeah, it’s that good.

A couple words about keyboard stands. I used to have 2-level Ultimate for a few years and it was ok until it just crashed (!) one beautiful Sunday morning with all the equipment I had on it: laptop, Nord, Launchpad etc. Luckily the laptop screen didn’t get hurt or I would go berzerk. So now after a bit of research I’m a happy owner of Quik-Lok with a third level laptop holder. I guess I need to show it off someday.

Speaking about Nord, I never updated its guts since Reykjavik Weekend back in 2003. Of course, even all the connectors are lost. So I had a misfortune to find out that Fry’s don’t carry MIDI cables! After a 15 mins dialog with a sales rep who’s knowledge about MIDI  starts and ends somewhere around 70s synth wizardry of Keith Emerson.

Songs finally start to shape up. I have to drop many of the earlier ones, but that’s all pros and cons of hitchhiking experimentation with sound.

Moonlight Sonata on Synplant

Test Test One Two

First days of January of year XXX0 is a great time to start something. So here I go with this blog. Christmas and New Year’s Eve were extremely productive for me, I finished a couple tracks and feel quite satisfied with them. We’ll see what upcoming months will give, and I promise to do my best to come up with as much good stuff as I can. Things look alright so far: last.fm playbacks grow steadily, JohnT from KTRU played Faces a few days ago and overall there are ideas, ideas, ideas. Check your watch, I’ll never stop!
